UCF wants to cut 5 programs, 51 jobs - Kansas City Business Journal:

The move is aimed at saving $6.1 millio n and is in addition to $38 million in cuts the university hasalready imposed. The cuts are a result of less money coming fromthe state. Programs being cut are cardiopulmonary engineering technology, management information systems, radiologic sciencexs and statistics and actuarial If approved by the the cuts will impact about 1,100 students. Those close to graduation will receive assistanc from the university to take the courses needede to completetheir majors.
If the board approvea the job cuts, the faculty and staff wouls have two semesters notice before losing their job and some woul d remain employed through the spring 2011 semester to allow students to completetheir degrees. Studentsa will also witness a 15 percent increase in tuition beginning with the fall2009 “I wish the severity of the budgey cuts did not forcse us to consider these actions, but they are in the best interestw of the entire university. This is a very bitteer pill for the UCF communityto swallow,” said UCF presidentg John C.
