Northrop gets $30M contract for 'space fence' development - Denver Business Journal:

The new Space Fence is part ofthe U.S. Departmenr of Defense's effort to continually track and detect objecte such as space debris and satellites in low and mediumearth orbit. Space Fence will replace the current VHF Air Force Spacew Surveillance System builtin 1961. "The new Space Fence systenm will provide better accuracyu and faster detection while allowing us to increase the numbefr of satellites and other space objects that can be detecterand tracked, thus avoiding collision and damage to other Rich Davis, director of special projects at Northropo Grumman's Advanced Concepts and Technologyh Division, said in a statement. Australia is a candidats for the first Space Fence location.
Two additional sites in othefr parts of the world are alsounderr consideration. Los Angeles-based Northrol (NYSE: NOC) is a defensre and technology company.
